2008 Kids' Activities
Free and fun children's activities are always a part of the AutumnFest experience, and 2008 promises to be something special! A big “thank you!” to this year’s organizers for bringing us these fabulous events: Laura Leckband, Sally and Bill Wiley, and Christina Salviski.
Saturday, October 25th
10 am – 10:30 am at the Gazebo
AutumnFest begins with our annual Costume Parade! Open to all children in costume, the parade forms at the gazebo. There, you’ll meet this year’s Grand Marshall and parade through the grounds, following the beat of bagpiper John Quinn. The parade ends at the Children’s Activities Area with performances, arts and crafts, face painting and more! Wear your costume and join the fun!

Heidi Carpenter – Puppeteer
Heidi will display her wonderful puppets, with many of her creations for sale. She will also set up an area for children to make paper bag puppets, and will bring cardboard stages for kids to put on their own puppet shows!

Holly Simpson – Face Painting
What’s a Fall Festival without a face painter? Visit Holly’s booth to become a walking work of art!

Julia Morgan/Avondale Patillo Methodist Church
Fun kid’s activities such as bubbles, clay molding and thumb print pictures. Come create some fun!

The AEA will be handing out information on the Charter School Initiative. Parents, bring your questions!

Sally and Bill Wiley - Bahais of Avondale
Sally and Bill are back to offer fun arts and crafts. Be sure to visit their booth!

Zoo Atlanta’s Animal Encounter
The ZooMobile is coming! Zoo Atlanta will bring 3 different animals for kids to meet. Come encounter some REAL wildlife!
Saturday On the Stage in the Children’s Activities Area

John Quinn - Bagpiper
After piping the costume parade through the grounds, Avondale resident John Quinn will show his flair on the bagpipes and Scottish drums with a concert on the stage in the Children’s Activities Area. Don’t miss this demonstration of these fascinating instruments!
11 am – Noon at the Children’s Activities Area/Stage
George Kennedy - Aikido Demonstration
Director George Kennedy of the Aikido Center of Atlanta will demonstrate this beautiful martial art form, the only purely defensive martial art.
Noon – 1 pm at the Children’s Activities Area/Stage
Tres Indermark – Bluegrass Guitar
So what makes music bluegrass? Tres Indermark will explain all about this unique and delightful brand of acoustic American music!
1 pm – 2 pm at the Children’s Activities Area/Stage
Tricia Bowers – Dance Demonstration
Tricia Bowers has danced for Avondale for many years (and taught many of our kids). She’s always fun and surprising, so come dance with Tricia!

Parke Kallenburg – Magic Show
Local favorite Parke Kallenburg is back to work his magic on the stage. Amazing and fun!

Heather Wurtzel – Yoga Demonstration
Hey kids - curious about yoga? Come meet Heather and try it out!

Atlanta puppet artist Kevin Pittman has been amazing kids and adults alike since 2003. Come meet Kevin and all his Forest Friends!
